As an Argentine born you boy (15) living in Mexico he mid 50s and going from my eventual home town, of Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, I would travel by bus from Eagle Pass to San Antonio and from there to Austin to my Roman Catholic boarding school of St. Edward’s High School.

I remember very well those rides to San Antonio in Continental Trailways buses and passing through what seemed to be lazy towns like Carrizo Springs and Crystal City. But I believe it was Crystal that became the first city in the US to have a Mexican American mayor and city council. That to me is the spirit if Texas in spite of all the negative connotations that people have of the state. And we must not forget (even though I am not a Texan) Barbara Jordan. Hook’em horns Texans!
