Blogging (Its Death?) & Google

I started blogging in January 2006. My all things internet friend savvy Tim Bray recommended I install an RSS feed. I did.

My latest blog (4430)

Now after over 4400 blogs people I know think I have not blogged when I do not place a link with a photo in Facebook and Twitter. Many have yet to figure out that the photograph has a link to something that is written.

In the last few months I have noticed a terrible change with my custom Blogger blog. At one time I could search for anything within any of my blogs using my Blogger internal search engine. That is now all but gone and it will only search about a year’s worth.

Bray has noticed this and wrote about it.

To look for an old blog I now go to Google and put my name followed by a comma and then the appropriate word or words. More often than not this works. Bray says Bing is good at this as Google is relinquishing past history.

In many of my blogs through these years I have inserted NY Times links and similar ones. Most today are active and work. But in situations like links to our local newspaper the Vancouver Sun those links disappear after a few months.
