Friends

Imagine walking in the street and having someone you have never met before ask you, “Will you be my friend?”

I have made friends with perfect strangers by having a chat (in a bus, in a concert, in airports and airplanes and yes even in the street) through finding something in common. In all cases you are looking at the person’s face.
But there is a recent trend in facebook where a perfect stranger asks to be your friend. If they are not yet your friend they (if they want to) can send you a message, “Hi, I am John and I want to be your friend as we both love roses.” No potential friend has used that avenue. They just send a request. When you click on their name you get the above box.

I do not friend them. What paranoia has surfaced in recent years that people do not want to give any information about themselves?
