I agree with you in just about everything. I spend $1700 Canadian per year to get a daily delivered NY Times which I read in bed (last 18 years) with my wife over breakfast (in bed). Why should I pay for the privilege of reading stuff on Medium which is mostly 13 ways to… or Why have you…? Most of it is advice from very young people who think they are consumate writers (I wrote this on Medium and I got 150,000 to read it.)

I am 76 and I don’t have the time left to read all blockbuster novels or see all blockbuster films. The articles in Medium that are for exclusive members only are there because those who wrote them are members.

If anything Medium for me is simply a platform where I re-purpose my daily blog. I vary it a bit by trying to make it less Vancouver, BC (where I reside) oriented.

I believe that I have a very long bench of stuff in Medium and the Medium people in charge ignore it. But the most terrible thing one can do is to become bitter. That I am not.

It is curious that when I started my blog in 2006 it was imperative to have an RSS feed. Now unless you place your blog (with link and photo) into social media folks who follow me think I have not blogged. Social media is some sort of entry. So is Medium in that sense.
