I am an Argentine and I am quite obsessed in reading Borges. I have read most of his books in Spanish. I have a Medium publication on Borges. This one. What is most interesting about your fine essay is that Borges did not spend all that time reading as he was blind early in his life. So people read to him. One of them was writer Alberto Manguel. In the mid 60s Borges would go to the Pygmalion Bookstore on Calle Corrientes. I did too as I was in Buenos Aires doing my two year stint as a conscript in the Argentine Navy. I never ran into the old blind man there. Manguel befriended him and Borges asked Manguel to read to him. Borges was the head of the Argentine National Library of Mariano Moreno for many years right after Perón left town in exile. Now Manguel is the current head.
