Many of these “How to…”essays remind me of people trying to find out how a magician’s trick works. At the very least I agree with you that we should “Tell a Story” and not write a “How to..” I abhor the “Five ways to…” or “The 10 books that changed my life.” What I find interesting is that these sort of headers appear in the venerable hard copy NY Times that I get every day (last 18 years) in our Vancouver BC home.
My desire to write my daily blog (Jan 2006) and here in Medium (3 years) has nothing to do with making money or finding readers. I tell a story every day and that satisfies me inside. After all I am now an Obsolete-Redundant & Retired magazine photographer/writer.
