The film was in Vancouver for exactly two weeks before it disappeared. My wife and I will have to try other avenues in order to see this film. I wonder if your finding the film sombre is not a product of who some women were seen in the 19th century. Compare the BBC series Victoria with all those photographs of an older Victoria, dressed in black to look like the mother of all terrible mothers in law! Since Dickinson never married the epether “spinster” would have been a damning on. Women now would never be called spinsters or in my Spanish “solterona”. If you have not yet read Jerome Charyn’s The Secret Life of Emily Dickinson I would strongly recommend you read it.
